The Great Debate

Daniel's Bithday Party is less than two weeks away. So, do I slave away and make a cake myself amoungst my numerous other party/daily life tasks like a good loving mother would do? OR, do I spend some $$$ and let him pick his own awesome Lightening McQueen cake from the store that will be perfect looking and frustration free?

My mother-in-law assures me cakes are only good when they are homemade from scratch. I guess that is what real mothers do.

I feel cakes are cooler when they look good and make my child happy, which means store bought since I cannot decorate a cake to save my life (I am not the family artist).

Anyone?

I have made an elaborate cake every year for Caroline until this year. The first year it was a three-tiered cake with pink and white layers and covered with little polka dots. The second year it was a white cake with bright fondant flowers all over it. etc. etc. - Let me say this - I enjoyed the day WAY more this year when I wasn't frantically trying to finish a cake at the last minute - and she was totally thrilled with her store bought princess cake. It's all about them, isn't it?

Go for the store baby! I think at this age he'll be all about the Lightning McQueen business. I say there is no shame in store bought, especially if it serves your purpose.

Buy the cake. I've bought Ariel a birthday cake since she was one. First, beautiful flowered chocolate cakes from Backers and then marzipan cakes from Scandia. She loves the marzipan. It never occurred to me to bake one myself. ;).

Call your cousin, Tiffy. She is all over the cake business. Her cakes are from scratch and look great. She made Skyler a Lightning McQueen cake that looked amazing. She can email you pics if tou want. SHe is also cheaper than a store, too.
