The Fun Begins

Heading to Boise

Yay we are at the beach!

Last week we went on our annual trek to the Oregon Coast. I love going up there and enjoying the nice cool weather while it is hot and sticky here at home. We usually do the drive up in one and a half days stopping overnight in Boise and then making our way to the coast the next day. It is only a 14 hour drive, but with three kiddies in the back it makes for  along and very noisy trip. The worst is always coming home. We make that trip in one day and when you hit Ogden it is awful because you are so close and feel so far away still. After all day in the car hitting Ogden at 10:30pm makes you just feel tired.

We had a week of great weather and lost of sun which is unusual up on the coast. We also had a fun time trekking on the beach and playing in the sand/water for hours on end with the kids. We found quite a few shells and some starfish too.

The Fourth of July on the coast is a crowded mess though. At night everyone heads to the beach to have a fire and let off fireworks. Imagine nearly 1000 people making their own fires in small groups and all letting massive fireworks off all at once for hours. It was cool to see the light of the fireworks over the ocean, but it almost looked like a war zone with the beach littered with fires, people and explosions. And since I had to get up at 4am to head home the next morning, and our house was RIGHT ON THE BEACH; I was ready for the fun to end earlier than most. I am not sure what time everyone headed home, but as of 1am the party was still going strong.
